Do it yourself forecasting

Predicting the surf accurately is a very tricky job. Basically the more information you have the better your chances are of making the right call. I have included links to my favourite sites. There isn't one particular site I use. Instead I will check 2 or 3 before I make a call. Here's an example of one of my surf checks.

First I might go to The Port Lincoln Virtual Buoy to get an indication of which day might be the best for wind and swell. This site gives a 4 day prediction on swell size, swell direction, wind strength and wind direction. Then I might check the K.I. buoy to see the actual swell size. I'll also hit the Tides site to see when low tide is. Finally, just to be sure on the wind I will check the Coles Pt. weather station which gives an up to date record of wind speed and wind direction.

After that I hopefully pick the best spot, whether it is for a surf school or a free surf.

GOOD LUCK!
